Avast ye scallywagg… ye have stumbled upon me private writin’s o’ our adventures! Why it seems only yesterday we set sail for distant ports. Now Salty’s gettin’ to be a big buccaneer, an’ Cap’n Bogg’s shortened his stride a bit. But wait, we’ve only been 5 years or so on this waterlogged bum boat… there’s plenty more adventures to come laddies and lasses!!! Here be me memories…

Festival de Piratas V
Saturday August 28, 2004
Shipwreck stage.
I thank ye all me hearties for makin’ the fifth festival the best-ever. The newly-remodeled Bossanova was filled to capacity with about 300 of the finest pirates ye shall ever see. And now, with a break from tradition, I’ll turn over the tellin’ to one who attended the festival herself, Lorien Fiona Stormfeather. -McGraw
Kevin: Thanks fer a night of musical pleasure, mate. Fer ye ‘ole old log book, my account of last night’s wonderful party….
“Twas a High Toned and Fancy To-Do in Port-Land last night! It was the 5th Annual Festival de Piratas, held on August 28th in Portland Oregon. And I don“t mind saying Portland Pyrates Rock!
The setting was a ballroom; illuminated by torchlight, complete with red velvet curtains, a shipwreck, ceiling festooned with black flags, and a small thieves market.
It was a virtual Who“s-Who in Oreygun Pyratedom. Hearty party pyrates braved hazards such as non-pyratical spouses, babysitters, unsympathetic employers, highway 5 and the Burnside Bridge to show up fer their “ole ship mates. The night“s hostess with the mostess was Keilanna, Delanna, Nanna (a mermaid played by Heather Nelson Robertson), also in attendance were the Pyrate Robot (wenches beware of the hook!), the Pyrate Clown, a fellow in a “ten galleon” hat, bevies of tattooed beauties, and some better know rogues such as the BOOM Pyrates (Brotherhood of Oceanic Mercenaries), and Chumbucket (one half of the infamous Talk like a Pirate” guys).
The evenings music revue included, shanty singing, bluegrass, punk, and a little surf music thrown in fer good measure by the pirate rock “n roll headliners “Bogg and Salty”. You haven“t lived until you“ve seen the “Flat Mountain Girls” do their clogging number in coconut shell breastplates! Also on the bill “o fare was the Ben Gunn Society, Sunken Chest and the Pirate Jenny Duo. Needless to say, Lynnigan, Richard the Black and I, danced our weasly black guts out!
Pyrate Bunny enjoyed the festivities tucked snug in me bodice until the proper chorus of Bogg and Salty“s, “Scurvy”. “What else do we have on a Pyrate ship?”.... “Bunny Rabbits!!!” On cue, Bunny took a dramatic flying leap from the pit to the stage and landed in the luvin” arms of Captain Bogg hisself. Got “em back safe and sound I did. Angus is kind to bunny rabbits, so he“ll live to fly another day.
Our own MacKay was working the market hawking his “Captain Jack“s Pirate Hats” (we were sending all hobbit sized women his way!!), Captain Morrigan Quicksilver was doing a brisk business in pyrate pottery and drinking vessels, Quarter Master Splinter “Zatara” Black was seen earnestly explaining jolly roger flag symbolism to a new recruit at the BOOM table. I got me own personalized autographed copy of Chumbucket and Cap“n Slappy“s new book “Blow Me Down, the Guys Guide to How to Talk like a Pirate”. (ISBN Number: 1-59571-022-1, fer all ye librarians out there.) By the bar the were much needed piratical accessories fer sale including; pyrate coloring books, striped socks, boats in a bottle, compasses, a box of knots and riding crops.
After many encores from Bogg and Salty, the evening was over too soon; we kissed and hugged our mates good bye, and promised to do it all again next year if the fates allow. We boarded the land yacht and sailed fer home with happy black hearts under the guide of a full yellow moon.
