Buckle here. I’d like to take this opportunity to say few fings about life aboard The Pollywogg.

Such a mighty racket!

Balanus glandulas keeps me up with their singing.
You’d think that being a singing pirate would mean that you want music all the time. Well…not all the time. See, we’ve been hearing this singing. At night. From outside the ship. ALL NIGHT.
We passed through a shallow shoal a few weeks ago and we sailed through a dense cloud of Balanus glandula cyprid larvae and I think we picked up some tiny lodgers on the hull. Cause, not only are we coated with barnacles, but there is a terrific racket.
I for one didn’t know that barnacles could sing so loudly. Or at all. But at least three of those guys are up all night laughing and singing. It is driving me crazy. I even tried to pick a fight with Sunny Jim so I’d get keel hauled- just to get a shot at those noisy barnacles.
Sunny would have none of it. So here I lie in my bunk, with them three giggling and singing and singing and giggling, keeping me from sleep.
All night I hear them singing:
Oh I takes what I want
From the drifting sea
There ain’t nothing
From the flotsam that can get by me
I glued my head to stay in place
I slam the doors to hide my face
The rising tide’s my saving grace
You can scratch and scrape
(You hairy old ape)
but I’ll be here in the morning, you’ll see
Maybe Fillibuster has some cotton I can stuff in me ears…
